Wi-Fi, Network & Cabling

A dead spot by the till or a dropped call costs you an enquiry every time it happens, and downtime during trading costs you the sale. We survey the building before quoting, run proper cable, and cut over out of hours so Monday morning simply works.

What this protects

Trading hours, coverage and a job done once

Network work done badly is paid for twice: once now, and again in complaints. Done properly, it disappears into the background where it belongs.

Downtime kept to a quiet window

Cutovers run after close and before open, so you lose a Saturday rather than a Tuesday afternoon of trading.

The revenue at the end of the signal

Coverage where the work happens keeps tills, calls and cloud systems moving instead of stalling.

Done once, and documented

Cabling tested, labelled and mapped, so nobody has to trace a mystery run through the cabinet a second time.

Survey first, quote second

Most Wi-Fi complaints turn out to be coverage and cabling problems, not router problems. So the first visit is a walk round with a survey tool, not a sales call. We map signal, count devices per area, find the walls doing the damage and check whether the existing cabling will actually carry the load.

Only then do we quote. That means the price you get is for the job your building needs, rather than for a box of access points and an optimistic afternoon.

What we install

Access point placement

Access points positioned from survey data, not spread evenly and hoped for. Channel and power settings tuned so they stop fighting each other.

Cat6 and fibre cabling

New runs pulled, tested and certified, with patch panels, labelling and a diagram you can hand to the next engineer.

Switches and cabinets

Power-over-Ethernet switching sized for the access points and phones, in a cabinet that is tidy enough to work in.

Guest and staff networks

Guest traffic on its own network with its own rules, kept well away from the machines holding your data.

Testing and handover

Signal tests in the areas that matter, speed checks at the desk, and a short handover covering what changed.

Out-of-hours cutover

Switchover done when the building is empty, so you spend a Saturday rather than lose a Tuesday afternoon of trading.

What goes wrong on cabling and Wi-Fi jobs

  • The comms cabinet holds cables from three different installers, none labelled, and tracing one run eats half a day
  • The building has foil-backed insulation, which quietly kills Wi-Fi through internal walls
  • The old cabling is Cat5 and will not hold gigabit over the distance needed, so a quick fix becomes a recabling job
  • The switch has no spare power budget for another access point, so power has to be planned rather than assumed
  • Someone unplugs the wrong patch lead during the cutover, so we photograph and label everything before we touch it

What a cutover day looks like

We work to a written plan with a rollback step, starting after close and finishing before open. If it is going to run past the window, you get a phone call with the options rather than a surprise at 8am.

Old equipment stays in place until the new network has been tested on live traffic. It only comes out once the replacement is proven.

What we need from you

  • Floor plans, or a short walk round the areas that matter
  • A quiet window, ideally a weekend or an evening
  • Access to any locked cabinets or comms rooms
  • A named person who can sign off each stage

Questions we get asked about Wi-Fi, Network & Cabling

It depends on the survey. If the existing cabling is Cat5e or better and the runs are short enough, we may only need to reposition access points. If it is older or damaged, new cable usually costs less than a year of repeated complaints.

Yes, and most network cutovers are done that way. A retail unit or a busy office cannot afford to lose trading hours, so we plan the switch for your quiet period.

A single-office Wi-Fi refresh is often two to three days on site. A full recable with new switching runs to one to three weeks, and you get a phased plan with dates before we start.

Some, unavoidably, but we keep it to minutes rather than hours. The work runs out of hours and we test before we switch the office over.

Yes. We supply, configure and document it, but the hardware and the cabling are yours.
