Business Broadband

Your broadband is what keeps the card payments, the cloud systems and your team's day running, and a domestic line cuts corners exactly where that costs you. We size the line for the upload your business genuinely uses, place the order with Openreach and manage the connection once it is live.

What this protects

Trading continuity, and the upload nobody sold you

A consumer line is priced on download and judged on upload. When it falls short, the card machine stalls, the cloud apps crawl and the office grinds to a halt.

Card payments and cloud systems

The card terminal, the accounts software and the cloud drive all ride on the line. When it drops, so does the revenue.

The busiest hour

Business lines are contended, so the 9am peak is where a domestic-grade connection shows its limits, right when the enquiries come in.

A line managed, not abandoned

We check what fibre is live at your postcode, order it, and keep the connection monitored so a slowdown is caught before your team feels it.

Why a domestic line falls short

The broadband in your office is probably the same product your staff have at home, which is fine until upload matters. Most consumer lines are asymmetric: fast downloads, a fraction of that on the way up. The download figure sells the package. The upload figure runs your video calls, your cloud backup and your Teams meetings.

Business lines are also contended, meaning the speed you are quoted is shared with other premises on the same exchange equipment. At 9am, when everyone in the street logs on, your busiest hour, throughput can drop noticeably.

Then there is the technology behind it. FTTC runs copper from the cabinet to your door, and speeds fall the further you sit from it. FTTP is full fibre all the way in, with none of that distance decay. SoGEA is a newer single-order product that carries data only, with no phone service bundled in, which suits premises moving off the old copper phone network.

Which connection fits your premises

FTTP

Full fibre to the premises. The fastest, most stable option where Openreach has built it, and largely immune to distance from the cabinet.

FTTC

Fibre to the cabinet, copper for the final stretch. Widely available, but performance depends heavily on how far you are from the green box.

SoGEA

A single order carrying data only over the Openreach network, with no analogue phone line attached. Useful as the PSTN switch-off approaches.

Upgrades

Already on copper? We check what fibre is live at your postcode before we order anything, so you know your real options.

Voice or not

We can keep a separate voice service over SIP or leave the line data-only, depending on what your phone system needs.

Sized to demand

We look at your actual usage and headcount rather than selling the fastest number on the price list.

What we handle for you

  • Check the Openreach availability and realistic speeds at your exact address
  • Place the order and track the Openreach appointments through to activation
  • Configure the router, firewall rules and Wi-Fi as part of installation
  • Test real throughput at peak times rather than accept the headline figure
  • Keep the connection monitored so a drop in performance is spotted early
  • Take fault calls, so you deal with us and not a different person each time

Questions we get asked about Business Broadband

Usually, if upload or support matters. A domestic package keeps a small office browsing, but it comes with consumer support hours and no service level to speak of. Business tariffs typically carry a repair SLA and a UK support route.

SoGEA is a data-only single order over the Openreach network. It exists largely because of the PSTN switch-off, which is retiring the old analogue phone network. If you do not need a traditional phone line, it is often the simpler option.

A working line can be activated in days. A new full-fibre install often takes a few weeks, because it needs an Openreach engineer visit and sometimes a new fibre run to the building.

Often, if it supports the connection type and any VLAN settings the provider requires. We will confirm before you commit, and we do not replace working kit for the sake of it.

Yes. We monitor it and take fault calls, so you are dealing with us rather than sitting in a call queue explaining the problem to a stranger.
